Yasmin Ahmad’s Legacy Lives on with Flicks Fiesta

George Town, 9 September 2016 - KDU Penang University College (KDU Penang) recently held “Flicks Fiesta”, a competition showcasing some of the best aspiring film talents in Penang. The awards night held on 9th September 2016. The competition was organized by the KDU Penang’s Department of Mass Communication, mainly by year two KDU Penang students who are currently pursuing their Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Communication and Public Relation. Gracing the awards ceremony was Guest of Honour, Datin Orked Ahmad (Sister of the late director Yasmin Ahmad), Mr. Jovian Lee (Creative Group Head, Leo Burnett Malaysia) and Mr. Teng Kok Liang (CEO of Penang Youth Development Cooperation).

The main objective of Flicks Fiesta was to unearth creative young filmmakers while they showcase their talents. There were nine awards for different categories to be given and two separate categories which are for College/University and Secondary schools. The awards for College/University categories were Best Short Film Award, Best Documentary Award, Best Editing Award, Best Cinematography Award and Yasmin Ahmad Award. The awards for Secondary school categories were Best Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Most Facebook Likes Award. There were also awards given for Best Photo and Audience Impact.
