George Town, 21 November 2018 – PENANGITES had fun in Summer Fest festival in Gudang Lebuh Cecil, Georgetown, with the live music and good food. Line-ups of Penang’s famous foods such as Char Koay Teow, Cendol, Laksa and many more attracted youths and tourists.
The highlight of Summer Fest is the young bloods who joined and enjoy electronic dance music organised by second-year students pursuing Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel and Tourism Management, KDU Penang University College, on Nov, 17th. The youngsters broke the floor with a live band performance by TMJB, a local band, and Zamaera, a local rapper playing music genres from blues to jazz.
“Good food and good music can bring togetherness.
“We bringing youths and tourists from different backgrounds to one place to make the connectivity with each other and enjoy themselves with the people around them,” said event director Tan Pi Quan.
“With a team of 12 students, we managed to collect RM5,000 and above by selling food on the campus to organise this huge event,” he added. They also invited the best food trucks in Penang to offer an opportunity for all gourmands both locals and foreigners, to be able to enjoy different types of cuisines.
Albee Thean, who visit Summer Fest festival with her mom, said they enjoyed tasting the wide variety of foods.
“We tried almost all the food here while enjoying the live band,” said the 18-year-old girl.
The event advisor Dr. Irhanida Abdul Kadir, senior lecturer in School of Hospitality, Tourism and Hospitality, KDU Penang, said the students came up with this Summer Fest idea to gather all the young blood to bring togetherness.
“Summer Fest is not really well known in Malaysia. But from this event, I believe it will create a positive vibe among the youngsters,” said Dr. Irhanida during the festival.
