|George Town, 07 September 2018 – The Negaraku music video features the smiles of myriad Malaysians from all background.|
Pleasing and unscripted, it was produced by KDU Penang University College’s (KDU Penang) students and it won the first-runner up prize of RM 3,000 in the “New Hope for Malaysia” video competition organised by Malaysians for Malaysia (M4M) on August 31st, 2018.
Tens of Malaysians from all creeds genuinely smiling were featured in the 63-second video, ending with the words, “Our Country, Malaysia” in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil and English.
“The rakyat is so different from each other, starting from our outer appearance and personal beliefs to something as simple as the daily customs we practise. This music video captures the smiles of everyday Malaysians as an effort to represent the beauty in our diversity.” said Skye Lim, who is pursuing a Diploma in Mass Communication at KDU Penang.
The 20-year-old student teamed up with three more mass communication students to produce the video. Skye Lim said she was thrilled when the prize-giving ceremony of “New Hope for Malaysia” was launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Tun Siti Hasmah.
“As youths, the presence of our nation’s leaders has given us a new hope for the communication industry as well as our future in this country. We are very excited to venture into our careers and aspire to contribute meaningfully towards Malaysian communities.” expressed Skye Lim.
Dr. Tan Lee Ooi, Head of Mass Communication, KDU Penang, shared his gratitude to the students’ achievement.
“This music video will remind us that Malaysia belongs to each and every one of us despite our differences because our diversity is Malaysia’s identity.” said Dr. Tan Lee Ooi.
