Our little chefs have done it again! This time toasting their success in the most recent 13th Battle of The Chefs 2011 at Straits Quay, Penang. Held in one of Penang's finest entertainment spot, this year's Battle of The Chefs was held for three days and boasts a total number of 735 competitors from 19 countries including Malaysia, Russia and Thailand. It was certainly a gathering of the region's top young culinary minds.

KDU has always pride itself in producing the future's young top chefs and this time was no different as our young chefs seized the opportunity to showcase their talents and battled it out in this prestigious event. A 25 men strong team was sent to compete in 15 different competition categories ranging from amateur to professional levels. Even with the huge amount of entries from professional chefs around the world, our students and lecturers stood out from the rest and bagged a haul of medals for KDU College Penang and made us proud. By the time the event concluded, we won a total 2 Silvers, 16 Bronzes and 11 Diplomas!

Miss Cindy Loh Wei Ching, SHTCA's Teaching and Learning Program Leader, also participated in one of the professional categories for Modern Asian Cuisine Restaurant and won the Bronze medal. "Both our students and lecturers were amazing and our hard work really paid off. I believe that learning is a two-way process. As a lecturer, I've learnt a lot from my students as well. Together, we made all of these possible by learning from one another." she said.

Chef Syamsul who is the program leader for the Profesional Chef Training Program in KDU Penang was also ecstatic and proud of his charges' success in the competition. In fact, Chef Syamsul also led from the front by winning the silver medal for the individual Ethnic Ketupat and Rendang category along with a whole host of medals.
