CSI 2016 a blast for high school students

KDU Penang University College (KDU Penang) brought back the Circuit Search and Investigation 2016 for the Department of Engineering, stressing on the learning of engineering knowledge can be fun.
Organised by KDU Penang’s Engineering Society and student helpers from the Department of Engineering, with sponsorships from many organisations including Northumbria University, Maluri Equipment Sdn Bhd, Hari Hari Sdn Bhd, Tekmark Sdn Bhd, Teoh Hin Mini Market and a few individual sponsors, the competition attracted 44 participants from 4 secondary schools in Penang.
Held at KDU Penang’s classrooms, laboratories and Auditorium, the participants were under the watchful guidance of the organising committee members and student helpers. The participants have to complete 6 station challenges which involved physical, cognitive and emotional activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); i.e. Roller Coaster, Puzzle Bomb, Ping Pong Race, Ball Toss, Super Hero Ping Pong and Morse Code. Each team will have the maximum of 25 minutes at a particular station.
Team SMJK CHC 1 from SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian emerged as the Champion. The team members Dong Jie Xiang, Lau Zhen Jie, Choong Khye Xuin and Khaw Choo Kean walked away with cash prize worth RM1,000, medals and a scholarship of 50% off the tuition fee for engineering diploma programmes in the future. This is followed by first runner-up Team PCGHS 6 from Penang Chinese Girls’ High School walked away with RM500 cash, medals and a scholarship of 30% off the tuition fee for the engineering diploma programmes and second runner-up, Team PCGHS 1 also from Penang Chinese Girls’ High School which walked away with RM300 cash, medals and 15% scholarship. The 2 consolation prize winners are Team SMK Permai Indah 1 from SMK Permai Indah and Team PCGHS 3 Penang Chinese Girls’ High School.
