In conjunction with World Kidney Day 2015, the Ministry of Health, the Malaysian Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia (NKF) has organized a World Kidney Day Walkathon on Sunday, 8 March 2015, at Padang Kota Lama, Penang from 7 a.m to 1.00 p.m.

There were free health screenings, exhibition booths, a colouring competition for children, a stage show, hawker stall food experience and not forgetting a cooking competition organised in collaboration with KDU College, Penang. 30 students from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts together with two lecturers were involved in this event. Besides, Chef Darren Tan was also invited to be one of the judges of the day.

There are 8 teams that took part in this cooking competition and each team needed to cook 2 different types of menu which has been prepared by the organiser. Students from KDU College were assigned to prepare the ingredients, cooking utensils and also to assist the contestants during the competition.

At the end of the event, a Professional Chef Training student, Morissa David, came forward to demonstrate to the public on how to prepare ‘Nasi Kerabu’ which is suitable to be consumed by kidney patients.  Everyone was given the chance to taste the dish and some of them even asked for the recipe as it was tasty.

The event was concluded with the prize giving ceremony to all of the contestant who participated and the top three winners were announced at the main stage.
