IMI BA in International Hotel & Tourism Management students participated in an educational tour, led by Mr. Anthony Lee as part of his Cultural Studies course. Students were brought on a tour of the George Town World Heritage Site. This school trip was very beneficial to students, arming them with important educational “Learning Outside The Classroom” insights and life skills.
The aim of this visit was to:
- Encourage students to participate and get involved in the efforts of heritage conservation.
- Provide hands-on experience to understand the multi-culturalism of George Town through the different cultural and migration groups that shaped George Town as to what it is today.
- Promote awareness among young people regarding the inscription of George Town World Heritage Site on 11 February 2012.
Students were made aware of the significance and importance of authentic culture and heritage, both to its stakeholders as well as for tourism development. Students also learnt about what they can do to help preserve and conserve endangered heritage/cultural assets.
